Aubot ('au' is to meet in Japanese - pronounced ''our-bot'') is focused on building robots that help us in their everyday lives. Based in Melbourne, Australia, the company aims to make robots accessible to everyone. The company was founded in April 2013 by Marita Cheng, Young Australian of the Year 2012. The Melbourne Accelerator Program at the University of Melbourne provided the initial grant to get aubot started. Funding and support has also been received from Tech23, the Victorian Government, STC Australia, the TAC and Optus. Their first product, Teleport, is a telepresence robot. Teleport will reduce people's need to travel while allowing them greater freedom to explore new surroundings. Teleport was launched at TEDxSydney on the Northern Foyer Stage at the Sydney Opera House on 21 May 2015.
