Artificial intelligence has existed in theory for centuries, as described by Jonathan Swift in Gulliver's Travels on the island of Lupita and even described centuries before that. What existed as a distant idea for hundreds of years didn't become tangible until 1951, when the first artificial neural network was built by Marvin Minsky & Dean Edmunds. Since AI's inception in 1951, it has come a drastically long way. AI is still considered to be in its infancy, even with self-driving cars available to the average consumer cruising the streets of big cities.
