Established in November 2019 as a spin-off from the University of Cassino and South Lazio, E-Lectra is a center of excellence in advanced power electronics and next-generation energy storage within the FAIST Group's "Electronics" Business Units.
E-Lectra operates across three locations—Cassino, Bologna (Calderara di Reno), and Montone—with over 1,700 m² of laboratories dedicated to prototyping, validation, and industrialization.
The facilities include Hardware-in-the-Loop platforms, controlled power supplies, and advanced test benches for SiC and GaN-based power conversion systems, alongside infrastructures for testing and characterization of energy storage cells, modules, and battery stacks. Dedicated platforms support the development of advanced Battery Management Systems (BMS), as well as AI-based energy management software.
Across both power converters and energy storage systems, E-Lectra adopts development processes aligned with functional safety standards (ISO 26262, IEC 61508) and cybersecurity frameworks (IEC 62443), ensuring high reliability and resilience.
Through modular design approaches, E-Lectra develops scalable solutions from kW up to tens of MW.
Led by Professor Giuseppe Tomasso, the company has developed strong know-how in high-efficiency static power conversion based on SiC and GaN technologies, with industrial-grade solutions including modular DAB converters, multilevel converters, SiC-based industrial and traction inverters, and solid-state transformers for high power and medium/high voltage.
E-Lectra is also advancing next-generation energy storage systems based on semi-solid and solid-state cells, with advanced active and hybrid BMS supported by proprietary IP, enabling high performance and innovation.
